Here is another stunning coloured silver coin, from the Royal Canadian Mint. With its distinctive yellow-and-black stripe pattern, the Canadian tiger swallowtail is one of Canada’s most recognizable butterflies. This is the first coin of a beautiful new series named the Butterflies of Canada.
The image is designed by Canadian artist Celia Godkin, who also designed the beautiful Twelve Spotted Skimmer coin we reviewed last month. Not all collectors are a fan of the coloured silver coins, but I find them absolutely a delight to look at.
The Tiger Swallowtail is a full 1 oz, 99.9% pure silver proof coin. It comes in a $20 denomination. With only a limited mintage of 10,000 and already 77% sold, you’ll want to order this beautiful coin soon! I expect the coin will sell out, especially as it is the first in the series. We’ll be following the Butterflies of Canada series.

50 Cent Edition
For those who aren’t avid silver collectors, there is also a silver plated 50 cents edition. But at the $34.95 price tag, it hardly seems worthwhile, when you can get the full 1 oz silver coin for only $99 CAN. Also, the 50 cent edition comes in a 20,000 mintage.
